Ham Radio-Ham Radio-portable aerial for the HF bands

Ham Radio-portable aerial for the HF bands

Ham Radio-portable aerial for the HF bands. Thank you for many in the USA who have kindly commented on many of my pages, I have received a number of requests for information on the buddipole or a similar portable aerial system, a lot of ham radio operators use this portable aerial, this video seems to prove by listening to the commentator that the buddipole differs little from a dipole. I have trawled the internet and come up with a few interesting pieces of equipment which seem to fit the problem many have regarding portable HF operation.

I have seen the MP1DXMAX here in the UK, it may be the ideal aerial assembly for your portable work.

The system comes with a convenient bag and tripod and light enough to be carried up to the top of a hill, an ideal product for SOTA.  Using a similar portable set up I have enjoyed many DX contacts across into the United States from high advantage points throughout the North of England. The Pennine chain is near to where I live, its called the backbone of Britain and offers many high spots operate from.

Your requests have also included links to products for Ham radio use, I have added Amazon to my website, a trusted supplier throughout the British Isles and I am sure many will shop on Amazon in the USA, please consider using the links below for your ham radio purchases.

Ham Radio Yaesu FT 857D: one of the best radio ever.   The Yaesu FT 857D was my buddy during several solo-DXpedition around the world.

I operate a Yaesu FT 857D also during many SOTA holidays, climbing and trekking.

I really think Yaesu FT 857D is the most versatile radio because this ham radio rig is ideal for vacation, camping, field day, living room table, DXpedition, IOTA operation, and DXing.

The FT-857D is the world’s smallest HF/VHF/UHF mobile transceiver, and it is fully equipped with everything you need in your base station and is simply perfect for an ultra-compact package for pedestrian and mobile operation.

The Yaesu FT 857D has also an external battery pack to work without the comfort of the electrical power.

With one RTX you will cover all your needs

The Yaesu FT 857D will let you operate on HF, 50 MHz, 144 MHz, and 430 MHz Amateur bands. The Yaesu FT-857 receives also on 100 kHz to 56 MHz, 76 to 108 MHz, 118-164 MHz, and 420-470 MHz.
Why I love this radio? Because I can operate almost every ham radio banc while I’m making SWL on public safety services, along with weather networks, AM and FM broadcasts, aviation communications and many others.

Versatile Memory System and easy programming

The Yaesu FT 857D offers up to 200 “Main” memory channels, each one of them you can name as you prefer with an Alpha-Numeric label of up to 8 characters.

DSP is an optional

I suggest buying the DSP for superior interference rejection and transmitter “talk power” for the Yaesu FT 857.
The FT-857’s DSP Unit is produced with a 24-bit high-tech D/A chip for signal processing. Included are Auto-Notch, Bandpass Filter and Noise Reduction filters, along with an equalizer for the microphone.

FT857D has a superb ergonomics

Ease of operation of the FT-857 is enhanced by the large-diameter (1.7”) Main Tuning Dial, similar in size to the tuning knob of many base station rigs. Selectable tuning steps of 2 kHz/4 kHz per revolution allow easy navigation around your favorite bands, while important keys and switches are strategically placed around the front panel for quick access.

My experience with the Yaesu FT 857D: excellent low-cost radio

Well, I am still exploring this little Radio because I’m always discovering some features that I was not using. I’m a DX-ER there was a time where I had UHF and VHF. Now, I’m getting older and I think that a radio able to everything is a must for every complete operator and beginner.

I said for the novice because with less than 1.000$ the beginner will have all the main possibilities of the hobby at his disposal. So it especially indicated as a budget radio for young operators that can expand their knowledge from QTH Dxeinf operation to field days to SOTA…

I worked  300 countries with this tiny radio. Today I’m going to fit it into a car using an ATLAS 125 as an antenna but every time I’m going to prepare all the setting I leave it in the shack. I just love this small Yaesu FT 857D.
